Formation of the Special Interest Group on Geospatial Social Innovation under the Memorandum of Understanding between LandsD and PolyU

Building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2025 between the Lands Department (LandsD) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Special Interest Group on Geospatial Social Innovation (SIG-GSI) has been established to promote the effective and practical use of spatial data, geospatial technologies and analytical capabilities for social innovation and smart city development in Hong Kong.

The SIG-GSI is formed by the Survey and Mapping Office of LandsD and the Research Institute for Land and Space (RILS) of PolyU, with the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (J.C.DISI) of PolyU as the collaborating institution. The parties affirmed their commitment to connecting the government, academic and social sectors and leveraging their respective expertise to translate forward-thinking geospatial innovations into practical, data-centric solutions that deliver tangible benefits for the betterment of the community.
