Director's Message

Director of Lands - Mr. Andrew LAI

Land is a precious resource in Hong Kong. The Government is committed to optimising the use of land resources and maintaining an effective land administration system for meeting the needs of the community.

Established in April 1982, the Lands Department is in charge of all land matters in Hong Kong. We are responsible for land disposal and allocation, valuation, acquisition and clearance, as well as land enforcement. We also approve Deeds of Mutual Covenant of development projects. In addition, we conduct land surveys and produce maps in both paper and digital forms, thereby contributing to the smart city and common spatial data initiatives.

The Department operates through three offices, i.e. the Lands Administration Office, the Survey and Mapping Office and the Legal Advisory and Conveyancing Office. Further information about our work and relevant reference materials are provided on this homepage.
