Cessation of Hong Kong GeoData Store Services on August 1, 2023

The Lands Department (LandsD) today (12 July 2023) announced that the Hong Kong GeoData Store will cease operation starting 1 August, 2023.

The development of the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) was embodied by the Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint in 2017 to facilitate the sharing of geospatial data across government departments, support government-to-business applications (G2B), and initiate a wide range of smart and innovative applications by allowing members of the public to use the spatial data. Correspondingly, LandsD launched the Hong Kong GeoData Store as the alpha version of the CSDI Portal in 2018, providing spatial datasets of public facilities and Application Programming Interface (API) services.

With the concerted effort of the Development Bureau, the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau (ITIB), LandsD and other Bureaux and Department (B/Ds), the development of the CSDI Portal (portal.csdi.gov.hk), which provides more comprehensive functions and services, was completed and officially launched in December 2022.

The CSDI Portal has been running in parallel with the Hong Kong GeoData Store to ensure a smooth transition. After a transition period of more than half a year, the CSDI Portal will replace the Hong Kong GeoData Store as the one-stop portal for sharing spatial data among B/Ds and the public on 1 August 2023. Hong Kong GeoData Store will cease operation on the same day.

The CSDI Portal allows users to discover, share, access and use spatial data, as well as using the standardised map related services. It also includes powerful contextualized searching and querying, previewing, and downloading services of spatial datasets, geospatial web services, and geospatial APIs. Besides, users who previously used the GeoData Query API in the Hong Kong GeoData Store can now switch to the new Geospatial and Data Query Services available in the CSDI Portal. Currently, the CSDI Portal provides more than 670 datasets provided by 58 government departments, covering different aspects such as land information, development, education, population, transportation, etc.
