Geographical Place Naming

Lands Department supports the Geographical Place Names Board (the Board) to process place naming applications. In processing place naming applications, the Board, which consists of representatives from concerned departments, will consult the stakeholders involved, seek endorsement from the relevant District Council and notify the public by advertising on newspapers and posting notice on site. Lands Department assists the Board in coordinating views from the Board’s members, liaising with other concerned parties, conducting field verification and providing the survey and mapping information as necessary.

Lands Department is also responsible for the maintenance of records of geographical place names for the whole territory. The adopted place names will be shown on official maps published by the Lands Department.
